“New York is a passionate city where you should not compromise.”
French born banker turned artist Diane Detalle shares her passion, painting, and her piece for Bloomingdale's "On The Go" Fall Fashion Campaign (for Elle Magazine) with us.
Tell us about your art work.
My paintings directly mirror my own life. In my life, as in my paintings, I’m driven by the two forces I prize above all else: passion and spontaneity. Six years ago I was working as a banker in New York and now I find myself exhibiting my paintings in Argentina, Brazil or Italy!
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
Since I was a child I absolutely loved the powerful strength of Abstract artists from the 1960's to the 1980's, The sizes of painting were huge and I though it was giving so much magic to a room . It stayed stuck in my mind somehow. Coming from a family were paintings were around, one day just to fill up my own walls in NY I just took on a brush and a canvas and my journey started. In terms of artists influences, I obviously love Rothko and his piece at the new Tate modern in London, and "Lavender Mist" from Pollock in Washington DC is just breathtaking. The colors of the Impressionists and the light they were able to bring in their paintings is just so amazing and dreamy. I think without exactly knowing how it happened my eyes catch some glimpse and I project these sensations on my canvasses.
In which direction do you plan to your work in the future?
I want to paint bigger and larger canvasses. I have yet explore some territories and techniques but it is a process and it comes in times. This is what makes it so exciting. I hope to exhibit in more cities and countries and also I am aiming to enter museum.
What advice do you have for New Yorkers considering apartment appropriate art?
