When and how did you become a member of www.nycinv.com?
My talented publicist, who has believed in me and my talent for a very long time, submitted my artwork to [We Heart Art] NYC Invitations. Long and behold I was accepted as a featured artist.
Tell us about your art work.
My work could be considered as "provocative" and "poetic realism." My subjects are real individuals who live on the edge of society. I take these subjects and manipulate them by use of mixed and composite media. I find it boring to use "pretty" people. I like my subjects to be real, because they come with real stories, and with that, the work takes on a life of its own.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
I gotta tell you, it’s not the greats. It’s the up and coming artists the ones who really go hard and believe in what they do. I admire that and it gives me a great deal of inspiration.
In which direction do you plan to your work in the future?
I would love to see my work all over the world. I have a growing design practice called the Creative House of Ayakoe that I've been working extremely hard on for a few years now. I would like to take my shows on the road and show everyone what I've accomplished. I hope to one day become one of the greats myself.
What advice do you have for New Yorkers buying apartment appropriate art?
Lighting is very important, especially natural light. Space is important as well, you want to give your artwork some breathing room. Depending on how large your place is, you should always buy art that is the appropriate size for your space.
