Tell us about your collection. My S/S 2013 collection was inspired by my recent trip to Barcelona. It brings together the romantic feeling of Spain with a few edgy notes of being from NYC. The pallette is soft in various shades of aqua, yellow and metal accents. The textures are fine lace, brocades and luxurious silks. The KG girl for this collection (as always) wants to dress a bit more special even when she is going about her daily routine.

It was an amazing experience being on Project Runway. It brought out skills in me that I had not yet tapped into. It was an accelarated design course for me, seeing as I am self-taught. I've grown professionally because now I really know my strengths and how to translate that into clothes my customers want to wear.
What attracted you to using pure materials? Honestly, I just personally dislike synthetics. Polyester to be specific. Natural textiles, like silks and wools have a more luxurious feel that I want the brand to be known for. I eventually I would like to take the brand into using more sustaintable materials.
How has the fashion community responded to your collection? The fashion community has been very receptive. I was named one of the top African American designers First Lady Michelle Obama should wear, which was an amazing honor. Now, I just have to get her in it!
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration? My mom has always been my greatest inspiration. Her style when I was growing up, was one that I always wanted to emmulate. So the pants that I've become known for, evolved from her long-legged '70s styles.
In which direction do you plan to take your line in the future? I would like to take my line into high end retailers, grow my clientele nationally and eventually internationally.
